Egglamp @ DDW

A playful light made from real eggs.

One of the earlier memories I have is at my fathers house in the center of Amsterdam. He had a small chicken coop in the backyard, I was just big enough to crawl and small enough to fit through the gate of the fence. So it was my job to collect the eggs. My dad was desiging lamps at that time and slowly making a transition to becoming a fulltime art teacher.

Thirthy years later, while I was working at an advertising agency, also in the middle of Amsterdam, an idea popped into my mind. A literal lightbulb went off except it was not a regular lightbulb. This one was made from eggshells.

The idea took several years to hatch, but in 2023 it came to life and I decided to present it during the Dutch Design Week. Piet Hein Eek was so kind to let us showcase the project at his location. I connected with Studio Josha & Micky Hoogendijk, who both designed a fixture for the Egglamp. Alongside I exhibited the Egglamp Box, which pulled many smiles out of the 100.000 visitors we had that week.

We are currently producing the Egglamp in white & brown, they will soon be available at egglamp.nl. Meanwhile get in touch for orders and to become a Certified Egglamp Dealer.
