The first morning I woke up in Barcelona I went straight to the beach. Took my shoes off and walked along the coast. The sand inbetween my toes, the sound of the waves, naked people everywhere, I loved it. As I was stroling I noticed a lot of small chunks or brown stones at the edge of the water. I looked closer. It were pieces to terracotta, washed up on the shore. I picked some up and took them home with me. A few weeks later at the studio I was offered by Neil Lorenzo, I started crushing them on to turn them into a pigment and made this painting out of it. The surface has a lot of texture and grainy vibes. If you run your finger across it, it’s kinda like walking along the beach.

Found at a color store in Barcelona that only sells pigments and products to make paint. It’s name: Conscolor. The lady spoke no English and my Spanish wasn’t that great either. So we communicated with hands, feet and Google Translate. She told me how they used to have their own factories and mines that the colors came from. She told to many artist from around the world and Spain. Names like Picasso might have even dropped by here over the years. As soon as I saw this bright blue I wanted to work with it. What a joy.

Moroccan Ochre 2022

Found at a small store named ‘Conscolor’ in Barcelona, where the lady spoke no English and my Spanish wasn’t that great either. So we communicated with hands, feet and Google Translate. I loved this color right away, but initially wanted to only use pigments that were from Spain. Since this was imported from Morocco I left it at the store. But the following days it kept coming back in my mind and I decided to follow that feeling.
